Hey all!
Matt here with you all today, hope you have had a great 4th of July weekend and are blowing up lots of things (safely, of course). I went to a 4th of July party today and couldn’t help but think how crazy it is how much food we eat, people we talk to, things we light on fire, sparklers we run around with without once thinking about what the 4th of July is all about. Freedom! The 4th of July isn’t just another day, it’s our Independence day. It’s amazing how quickly we forget what we are celebrating!
I’ve been having to ask myself a constant question, “What’s it all about?” We go through each day going to work, eating our food, going to church, hanging out with friends, doing our “good deeds,” etc. It’s all the same. What’s really the point though? Are people getting saved? Are you being fulfilled eternally or just for a moment? Are people encountering the love of Christ? Are the hungry being fed? The captive being set free? If not, what’s the point?
My heart seems to break easier the closer I get to God. I find myself in tears thinking about the broken people in the world with nothing or the ones who think they have everything. The fact that we (Gods workmanship, children, heirs, ambassadors, light to the world) see it, hear it, talk about it, but never do anything about it. It’s a challenge for me personally to remember how anointed and called I am in the eyes of God and how much power he has given me to do his will and help the lost. He’s given that power to all of us!
All us guys in the band have to constantly remind ourselves why we’re doing what we are. It’s so easy to get distracted and lose sight of the true meaning in life. It’s not about a band or a performance, it’s not about playing a 8 song set and walking off the stage. It’s about the presense of God being revealed to people who may never experience it! It’s not about selling CD’s or making our name famous, it’s about changing lives with the tools God has given us!
I encourage you this 4th of July to really think about what it is you’re celebrating, pray for your friends who are fighting overseas or maybe have once before. Honor the people who have risked their lives for you. Most importantly, remember who it is that has given us the ultimate freedom and that we are created to live in remembrance and tell everyone that we come in contact with. It’s not about the “American dream.” It’s about Jesus Christ and seeing HIS name lifted high across the earth! God bless and have a great weekend. Love you guys!
